Techno 2024
Some of my favorite Techno releases of 2024
Bone Bone & Gove the Florist Split EP
A collaborative release by Burlington Electronic Department. This EP showcases the unique and experimental electronic styles of Bone Bone and Gove the Florist and the emerging electronic music scene in Burlington, Vermont. The EP opens with Gove the Florist's track House track "Herk" with lo-fi breaks echoing through the lush pads and leads that carry on through the track. Then Bone Bone's "Jounce" brings in jackin' basslines, acid leads, and rythmic melodies to be the driving force of the dancefloor. This release exemplifies the collective’s focus on innovative live electronic music, catering to fans of underground and avant-garde sounds.
Rene Wise - Moving Pressure 01
The first release is from one of my favorite producers at the moment, Rene Wise. I first discovered Rene Wise through my good friend Zenrix who, in early 2022, showed me Rene Wise's track Pleasure Note. After hearing that track I was hooked on his productions and began consuming everything I could find from the producer. Well into listening to his 4hour set with Rødhåd from March of 2023, I was obsessed with a track that stood out to me with a haunting FM lead. I searched everywhere for this track, even repeatedly revisiting the soundcloud page to see if the ID had been found. All I knew was that it was an unreleased Rene Wise track with no release date in sight. About a year later I saw Rene Wise's announcement of the his new label Moving Pressure and first release. There I heard the track I had been waiting for, "Caging Green".
Moving pressure has also just recently had it's second release earlier this month with a collection of more driving and hypnotic tracks.
Andy Martin - La creación de las aves
Another artist Zentrix showed me a couple months ago, Andy Martin's release from this summer consists of broken kick drum patterns as well as 4-to-the-floor classic techno rythms. But thoughout these tracks are interesting and fresh sounds such as lush dub chords, chopped vocals, and various sounds akin to the sound palette found in some Psytrance genres.
X-Coast - Riviera Collection
Pure retro grooves and attitude. X-Coast's always feel like they're ripped off of a Mix CD or Tape from the 90s.
Black Mirror Park - Feed Me Ashes
Release on the legandary Platen Rythm label, Black Mirror Pack's release has wet Acid Basslines, spoken word over driving techno, and off-kilter drum patterns.
